i’ll give it a shot. why not.

i mean looking at this and looking at the sky are similar. not just because they look alike but because they’re both a look back in time, in a way. when you look at the stars, some of the light that you see has taken tens of thousands of years to get to your eyes. that’s what thousands of light years away means—it means that light is old. older than any span of time our small and earthbound minds can understand. so old that some of the stars that produced that light aren’t even there any more. you see those stars as they were when they made that light, not as they are now. since those photons began their long journey to you, new ones have been born, old ones have died, others have simply changed. galaxies have changed shape. and thus when you and i look into the face of the night sky, we look back in time.

this beach stone is much the same, if on a different scale. its cosmos is smaller, each “star” a creature that once breathed in the oceans of a world that is now only stories pressed into the earth by time. stories written in stones, in mud, in the oldest light our young eyes could accept. and by the grace of science and time and god and humanity, we in our fleeting and precarious finiteness can read them all around us, and imagine what may have been.

okay i'm going to turn off anons for a while so this will be the last thing i'll say about this. if you do want to have a discussion about this, i'm open to having it as long as it's earnest (which judging from the tone of your message, isn't the case).

number one, the post about the evil bg3 character hairstyle was meant to be a joke. i know that saying "bro this is just a joke" is a crappy defence sometimes, but i never aimed for serious character analysis in a joke image i made in 20 minutes that came from me noticing a funny pattern.

number two: i haven't done the gale romance nor played through the gale origin. all i know about gale's story is what i've experienced through a tav that didn't romance him, so it's very likely i missed some of the content related to his story. that being said, i've seen both "mystra is evil" and "mystra isn't evil" thinkpieces, so i honestly didn't want to get into this discourse since i have zero to none knowledge about gale's wider backstory and mystra's wider dnd lore. if i had included mystra as a villain i would've probably gotten people contesting that, too, so i decided to just put her in a category that wasn't "100% maliciously evil villain". she absolutely did harm to gale, and i'm not denying that. i'm just not comfortable making a clear judgment on if she's irredeemably evil or not.

you want to go back to that image? fine. i included cazador and mizora, both of whom have male victims (astarion + all of the other male spawn, and wyll). mizora's abhorrent treatment of wyll is especially dismissed by the fandom as something that's not that serious anyways, too. are also you going to jump into the inboxes of every single person who's ever made "step on me mommy mizora" jokes and accuse them of also not caring about male victims?

finally, number three: i really don't appreciate the implication being that i condone abuse/grooming if it's directed towards men just because of a shitpost i made. i'm sorry, but you don't know nothing about me nor my personal life nor my relationships, and i don't think that making wider judgments on internet strangers based on a single meme about fictional characters from a fictional world is something that you should be doing. i can't tell you how to think, and if you're weirded out by my take (which, i reiterate, isn't even a serious character analysis) that's completely fine! feel free to mute me or block me or unfollow/unfriend me if you're one of my mutuals. i won't even hold it against you, since i know that everyone's triggers and squicks are different. but what i don't appreciate is you coming into my blog and accusing me of being a grooming apologist based on only one tumblr post that wasn't even about mystra's relationship with gale on the first place.

again: if you want to actually have a serious discussion about this, you can go off-anon and dm me. if you want to accuse me of something as heavy as being an actual abuse apologist, say it with your whole chest. have a nice night, afternoon, or morning, wherever you are.

And here’s another thing:

I haven’t been nearly as active on here the past almost-a-year as I’ve been in years prior to that. And I am working on changing that, but there’s a marked difference, and it plays into how much I’m reblogged and my posts passed around, compared to in prior years. And I’m aware of that, but I’m trying to do better about being AWARE of that.

Because I’m not oblivious to how my own posts have impacted fandom over the years, for I am a vocal and persistent....person. Yeah, let’s go with that word. And its not like I think most of my posts were wildly off base now or anything like that - I like to think I’ve always been fairly good at making known when I think I made a wrong call or said something I didn’t mean or regret after thinking about it. But I am in a space now where I’m a lot more particular about how accurate or nuanced I am about various takes, especially ones that dig into the heart of the themes and stories that drew me to a lot of my fave characters in the first place. 

However, lengthy, earnest rambles about thoroughly informed takes on every angle I see to a particular character interaction or story - when I tend to see a LOT of angles, and actually try to as my goal - let’s be real, these kinds of posts just do not take off and garner notes and reblogs to the same degree that punchy soundbites, aggressive defenses or accusatory call-outs about others in fandom do.

Not to mention...as much as shitposts or tongue-in-cheek jokes that are the extreme opposite of nuanced.

Sooooo.....its a bit......naive, sure, let’s go with that word, for me to expect that the posts I’m trying to be more thoughtful about these days, actually outpace the shitposts or un-nuanced jokes. And if I actually want the former to be more representative of my views than the latter, well, it doesn’t work to act like both kinds of posts are innately predisposed to be met with similar receptions.

All of which to say this is just kinda a personal blog maintenance post about how where my actual posting interests lie right now and why I’m trying to be more about the former than reactively posting stuff along the latter lines. And its A-Okay to ask me to clarify my position if the take I seem to be sticking with is decidedly lacking in the Nuance Department.

(Don’t get me wrong, I’m not taking a Vowing of No More Jokes or like, changing my sense of humor, lmfao, and I’m not saying that asking for clarification is always going to reveal a different layer or position. I’m one hundred percent interested in walking back that Dick and Talia stance to add more thoughtful dialogue to the conversation about them, but I’m equally clear that nah, that Jason post from the other day represented me accurately the first time around, even with tongue-in-cheek jokes included.

Its a case by case basis and thinking that yeah I definitely get it wrong some of the time doesn’t innately mean I’m gonna be like yeah no, mea culpa every time I get pushback. So....that’s not going to be A Thing. Just saying: This isn’t a promise that saying “I don’t like what you said” is gonna get me to disavow whatever I said that you don’t like, lol, it just means that if you’ve got a specific point of contention, I do want to take a second look at stuff I said to make sure I actually like what I said there, even in hindsight.)

1. Why did you choose your url? Probably self-explanatory but...I love Lan Jingyi with my whole heart, and he is definitely the chaotic good sort of child I would hope to raise, if I wanted to raise a child. My FIRST tumblr was a username I’ve had practically my whole life and it was Elvish I cobbled together myself from Ruth S. Noel’s handbook when I was, like, 9; my second blog was a tattoo I have in Latin.

2. Any side-blogs? I have a personal blog that I RARELY use, and it’s mostly just gothy aesthetic shit and some multifandom yelling.

3. How long have you been on tumblr? Ah...since...2010? 2009? Something like that.

4. Do you have a queue tag? I’m too lazy and I’m actually not sure what the point of it is? So, no.

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place? Because I desperately needed more people to scream about The Untamed with!!! And it WORKED, I love you all.

6. Why did you choose you icon/pfp? It is the closest representation of my actual self that I could find within the theme of the fandom. It’s pretty close, honestly, going by Vibes.

8. What’s your post with the most notes? I think this fic promo post. But this one is a close second. I don’t get very many notes!! This tumblr is more like a warm lil house full of love than a big noisy stadium, and I do not mind at all.

13. How often do you use tumblr each day? Less than I used to but more than I should? But I don’t feel like I just scroll mindlessly here, I’m really actively enjoying the content I see. I love this fandom.

14. Did you have a fight/argument with a blog once? Who won? Nope! I’ve never widely engaged with internet people before this fandom, and this blog is very much a drama-free zone. If somebody has a callout or constructive criticism for me, I will accept it wholeheartedly; if someone comes at me with wank, they will be lightly bopped on the head or entirely ignored. But none of this has happened as of yet! Like I said: warm lil house full of love.

15. How do you feel about ‘you need to reblog this post’? Nobody is obligated to reblog anything! Tumblr-as-escapism is valid, and guilt is an ineffective information-spreading technique. Also, Tumblr is not a credible news source. Educate yourself and disseminate information as you personally see fit!

16. Do you like tag games? Yeah! It’s fun to see and be seen, is it not? I did sort of miss a few I think, in the last month, things have been a little crazy. But I like it, it’s fun, and if you’ve tagged me, thank you for making me feel involved!!

All these jokes about a real persons tragic & horrible death is getting hard to take. He was a real man that joined up for his country. His death was a terrible way to die. It’s heartbreaking to see someone who served during such a bloody war, lost countless friends reduced to such tasteless jokes. He’s braver than me, I was to scared to join the military myself. But he did. It’s just hard to tell tone online I guess but as a outsider the way the fandom is treating this very real person is gross

I feel like I shouldn’t have to say as an account that makes memes and shit posts that I’m talking and joking about about the character and not the real person, if you’re coming here for genuine representation of the real men then you aren’t going to get it - my blog is called David-sharkthot-Webster. It’s not a history blog.

There’s always been this issue in the fandom about being able to separate the real men from the actors portraying them and treat the real men with respect. Obviously Webster’s death was incredibly tragic and every time that line comes up in points I tear up cause it is miserable. But this is a Band of Brothers shitpost blog and it’s my blog I’m here to make light of things and joke around and make dumb posts for people. Anything I say is seldom in earnest and my posts are never about the real men. It’s important in this fandom to make the distinction but I feel like with my content I shouldn’t have to state that I’m talking about the characters and the actors and not the real people.

Im really sorry you feel this way about the fandom - my posts are just shit posts made for fun- As for other people I know there is a genuine dislike for him whether it be the real guy or just Eion Baileys portrayal of him but this is an Eion Bailey David Webster Stan blog so anything here is never a genuine attack on him

Okay, so all of us have been on Tumblr about the same amount of time. We’re all fandom grannies, staning Tangled since 2010-2011. And honestly, I was aware of them, and they were aware of me. You can’t really be a big fan of something without recognizing the same names popping up over and over.

@forever-tangledup suddenly became spotlighted in the fandom because she was the first person to post a teaser image of Tangled Ever After. She took a photo of her tv screen of Eugene in his wedding outfit and we lost. Our. Minds. Like, you think  this whole half unbuttoned shirt is bad? That’s nothing compared to suddenly finding out we were getting a wedding short and seeing him in his wedding clothes.

Anyway, Ellie and I started talking about four years ago in earnest. She was piloting the Tangled Fandom Resurrection, and not only did I support the idea, I knew that, as a big(ish) name in the fandom, I could get things moving in that regard. So we started talking and joined forces and really started to push the movement. We met in person the first time in August of 2015, right after D23 Expo (yeah, it was held in August then).

@kelseyfitzherbert is a name I’ve been aware of since the beginning of my Tumblr life. She always has (and always will) make Tangled shitposts (called night blogging back then XD), and we’ve been FB friends for a while, but we really only started talking in earnest about six-ish months ago? Maybe closer to eight, now. But since we’ve been aware of each other all this time, and vaguely friends, it was really easy to just slip into genuine friendship. In fact, her then-fiance contacted Ellie and I so we could contribute to Kelsey’s wedding present! We have not yet met in person. Hopefully next year, though!
